“In a world where everything seems so negative, how do you stay so positive?”
Here are ten ways to stay body positive in such a body negative world
1) Appreciate all that your body does for you
Don’t put down the body that carries your soul, the body that has carried you through your life and the body that will continue to push through all of the hard times. Don’t put down the body that has been there through every struggle, don’t shame the body that has supported you through the good the bad and the ugly.
2) Look at yourself as a whole person; don’t focus on specific body parts
Nobody is one-hundred percent confident with their body and it would be unrealistic for me to expect that, but if you focus on yourself as a whole person instead of dwelling on hating certain parts of your body, I guarantee that you will find happiness within yourself.
3) Wear clothes that are comfortable but also make you feel confident about your body
Who cares what other people think? Wear what makes you feel confident. This could be something different for everyone and it all depends on the shape of your body and what you feel best in, so rock whatever makes you feel good!
4) Focus on the things you love about yourself
Instead of dwelling on the things that you hate about your body, focus on the things that you love about yourself. Try to think of one thing every day that you love about yourself and write it down or repeat it back to yourself when you’re feeling down. Remember, your flaws are what make you unique and there is so much of you to love!
5) Surround yourself with positive people
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- it is SO important to surround yourself with positive people because if you surround yourself with negativity how can you expect to be positive yourself? A big part of body positivity is acceptance and positivity throughout the other aspects of your life.
6) Love yourself the way you are, not for the way you could be
You were made this way for a reason, what you may see as a flaw, other people see as beauty. Stop focusing on what your body could like if you worked out more or ate healthier and start loving your body for the way it is. Your body has been there for you through every fight and hasn’t given up on you so why are you giving up on it?
7) Don’t participate in body shaming – of yourself or others
Putting down others is no good way to bring yourself up. It’s important to recognize that while you’re trying to be body positive for yourself you should be positive towards others as well. Compliment and encourage others and pass along the positive vibes. BE NICE.
8) Remember that everyone is on their own journey
You don’t know what struggles anybody is going through on their own and if you wouldn’t want them to judge you, why are you bothering with making judgements about them? Everyone’s body is different, but all bodies are equally as beautiful.
9) Have a media-detox
The media is one of the biggest reasons why people these days have a hard time staying body positive- because magazines and social media sites give us an unrealistic expectation of what our bodies should look like, they sexualize women and make it so hard to remain confident with yourself.
10) your weight is just a number- it does not define you
Your body isn’t who you are, your body does not define you. Your body is simply a home for your personality, your soul, your confidence, your memories and yourself. Your body has been a good home to you for your whole life and has fought through every battle, be kind to yourself and be kind to your body.
