You’ll try to de-stress by cleaning your room only to have it messy again a week later. You’ll finish all of your upcoming assignments early just to have more projects piled up on your desk. In a world of craziness, it’s important to find a balance, to be able to step back and put everything into perspective.
Some days it feels like we live in a crazy world, and finding a balance can be anything but easy. Life is stressful for everyone, for many different reasons, and some days we just want to give up. Unfortunately, we can’t avoid stress, we just need to find ways to cope with it.
Everybody finds balance in different ways, for some it may be a good workout session, and for others, it could be reading a book and lighting a candle. A big part of finding this balance is recognizing how important it is to self-care. It is so easy to feel like your world is falling apart when you start to neglect your personal needs. Your body takes care of you every day and we need to remember to take the time to return the favour.
When the road ahead looks a little rough, take a step back and breathe. Take a break from whatever is stressing you out and do something that makes you happy. I promise that in the long run, that paper isn’t going to matter as much as you think it does in the moment. As students, we seem to forget that our grades don’t define who we are, and we are constantly pushing our bodies to their breaking point without even realizing it. Take the time out of your day to find peace with yourself. Always practice self-care and remember that your mental health is more important than your grades.
A few things you can do to practice self-care..
- Make yourself a cup of tea
- Go to the gym
- Read a book
- Go for a walk
